Narali Purnima is celebrated on full moon day in the month of Shravan. Narali Poornima marks the end of monsoon season in Maharashtra. This festival is known by various names like : Narali Pournima, Shravani Pournima, Rakhi Pournima or Raksha Bandhan. 'Naral' means 'coconut', which are offered to the sea-god on this day by the people. Narali Pournima also marks the initiation of the new fishing season and fishermen mollify the sea-god before sailing out in their decorated boats.

They worship for a safe fishing. Raksha Bandhan is also celebrated on this day. Sisters tie 'rakhis' on their brothers' wrists. The ritual shows the bond of affection between siblings and signifies the brother's responsibility to protect his sister through out her life.
